Martina Scheinecker and Johannes Narbeshuber have done a web-based survey on the topic of "Identifying and developing potential in enterprises". Participants came from 100 enterprises of different sizes from trade, services and industry, located in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Martina Scheinecker had already done a study on this topic in 2003, therefore we can describe tendencies since then. In short the core findings are the following:
Since 2003, the use of professional tools has increased considerably, in recruiting as well as in the continuous assessment and development of potential
- The next level leader plays an important role in the process of assessing the potential of leaders
- Concerning employees, there is a trend away from assessments by the direct leader towards the increased use of standardized tests
-
There is a clear correlation between the attractiveness of an employer and the systematic identification and development of potential
- The systematic assessment and development of potential is no longer the privilege of potential leaders, but has also become common practice with skilled employees
-
The role of leaders in the process of identifying and developing potential was generally rated with reserve. For HR the topic is very important.
- A company`s size has a decisive impact on how potentials are dealt with when it comes to their identification and development.
